Van Cort Instruments was started in 1979 by Eric and Kate Van Cort. Known for their high-quality reproductions and finely turned brass and wood models, Van Cort Instruments has been a beloved name among kaleidoscope enthusiasts.
Originally makers of reproduction optical instruments such as teleidoscopes, Eric and Kate Van Cort later expanded their line to include more and more kaleidoscopes. Their first kaleidoscope model, the Lucida, was introduced in 1983, followed by the Classic in 1984. Their most famous model was the Charles G. Bush reproduction kaleidoscope from 1989, which remains highly sought after to this day.
Although their studio in Northampton, MA, closed around 2000, the legacy of Van Cort Instruments lives on through their beautiful and timeless creations.
